As surely as Norm, Cliff and Dr. Crane would daily be seated at the bar “Cheers” for happy hour brewskies and camaraderie, so is the expected behavior of the “regulars” at Spectators Grill and Pub in North Little Rock, which is located just off the Levy exit.  “Specs” is truly one of those home town bars where “everybody knows your name”, and if they don’t, they soon will because just the feel of the place will have you coming back again and again.

Proprietor Glenda Love first opened Spectators twenty one years ago when, after traveling through Scotland, Ireland and Wales, was inspired by the “public houses”, better known as “pubs”, to own a pub of her own.  This, in her words, “would be a way to extend my house to a larger area where I could welcome friends and family.”

Upon entering the old Stanley Hardware building from the 1960’s, which Glenda lovingly claims still holds a few nuts and loose screws, it is obvious that her mission was accomplished.   The pub boasts an antique bar that once graced Sam’s Chili Parlor, established in the late 1800’s, and was located at 6th and Pulaski Streets in Little Rock.

Bar manager and mini powerhouse, Brenda, along with the rest of the friendly staff, aims to please from the moment you walk in the door.  Observant to detail they will more than likely remember your name, as well as your likes and dislikes, on your return visit.

Spectators offers a wide variety of entertainment and food for the people, from all walks of life, which frequent, or happen to wander into the place.  Whether it’s for the daily southern style luncheon specials, to include Monday’s standard special of chicken fried steak with all of the trimmings, or during happy hour when the daily drink specials and offerings of munchies can’t be beat.

The house favorites are the hand patted, never frozen, cheeseburgers and the pork tenderloin sandwiches that are dressed to your specifications.   Jerry’s Jap’s, pickled jalapenos stuffed with tuna, cheesy fries and hand cut and battered chicken strips are among the favorite appetizers.  Spectators also offers salads, a variety of wings, fried zucchini, onion rings and many more choices ensured to satisfy any hunger while enjoying the many sources of fun during your visit.

With eleven televisions, two pool tables, a pin ball machine and a long shuffle board there is no room for boredom at the pub.  There is live music every Friday night (except during March madness when basketball on the tube rules), Karaoke on Saturday nights and nightly drink specials throughout the week.  Monday night is ladies night with half price well drinks, Tuesday nights’ offering is a 12 ounce draft beer for $1.25, Wednesday is pitcher night, on Thursday nights import beers are discounted and Friday night is discount “shot” night.

Spectators also has special events throughout the year which is particularly evident on St. Patty’s day with free party favors, green beer and a multitude of drink specials.  On President’s Day, for a small fee, the bar offers a bus ride to and from Hot Springs for a day at the horse track and possibly the most fun you’ve ever had without worry of driving home.  All of which revolves around the feeling that you have a sense of belonging at the extended “public house”, and the new found friends and family that will be glad you came.

Once a month Spectators hosts an open “mic” night, bring your own instruments and join in, or sit back and enjoy the jam.  It doesn’t matter if you are an amateur musician or a very talented one, both can be seen and heard on the stage and all are welcome and enjoyed by the enthusiastic crowd.

In the spirit of a friendly atmosphere Spectators doesn’t tolerate obnoxious and offensive behavior—and to ensure everyone’s good time any offenders will politely be asked to leave.  If an old time good feeling is what you’re looking for at the end of the day, the middle of the day or on your sacred weekend then Spectators Grill and Pub is the place for you.  In a short time you can bet that everyone “will know your name”…

Spectators is located at 1012 west 34th street in North Little Rock, AR.  Business hours are 11:00 a.m. to midnight on Monday through Thursday and 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Friday and 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.  For more information about Spectators itinerary and specials log on to www.SpectatorsGrillandPub.com.
